July 16-22- A Week in Lignano

We decided some time ago to rent an apartment in the beach town of Lignano. Because with Lucy's visit, there would be five of us sharing Fab & Nicole's 2 bedroom house, we thought that the kids could use the beach apartment on the weekend and the three of us, Lucy ,Uwe & I, would take the place over on Monday. Not only would we have a wonderful vacation at the beach but we would also have some necessary time away from each other and give Fab & Nicole ( our hosts) some much needed privacy!

The three of us drove down to Lignano on Monday- a 45 minute drive- and met the kids for lunch at one of the many beach bars.
Here is the map of Lignano Sabbiadoro where we stayed

Lucy, Nicole, Uwe & Fab having lunch

Our apartment- 1 bedroom with beds for 3, a tiny living room plus kitchen, and a fair sized bathroom had a great balconey overlooking the pedestrian way through town where we could spend time people watching when not shopping or beaching.

The pedestrian way in the evening was crowded with shoppers/ strollers
and mostly German tourists

The following is the beach area where we spent a couple of days either in a rented gazebo or under an umbrella.

These are the gazebos that we rented one day jointly with the kids

And a sea of umbrellas!

On Wednesday, Lucy & I took a day trip to Venice ( a separate blog entry) and when we got home totally worn out and pooped, Uwe had made us a wonderful spagetti dinner which we ate on the balconey.
What a wonderful guy- the best.

We also rented a 4 person bike one day to cruise around town.

The 'Lignano Express' drove tourists up and down the pedetrian way every evening

There was great shopping- everything is on sale during the month of July. Bought new Italian shoes, a cute top and many presents to take home for our families. Lucy, a fashionista, of course outdid me!
Many good restaurants were both along the pedestrian way and along the beach. Needless to say, we had some memorable meals.
Some more Lignano pictures. Eating diner

The pier with restaurant/night disco in the early morning

And more beach pictures- sandy beach  and you could walk out forever
