Sept.12 to 17- Final week in Italy

Final week in Italy and of course a final Festa. This one was an all weekend Medieval Festa in the village of Valvasone- one that Uwe and I had visited several weeks ago.
The four of us went on  Saturday early evening and were met there by Bobby and his wife Nichole, Chris- another US Airforce person stationed in Aviano- and his fiance Dijon plus some of their friends.

                                                 Some of our group

We got there while it was still light enough to take some pictures. All the participants and some of the Festa guests were dressed in period clothes and once it got dark, only torches were used for light. A very authentic medieval Festa. We missed the day time  entertainment which included jousting on horseback among other things.

The crowds were light when we got there but got progressively busier as the night wore on.

More Festa scenes- lots of tents set up serving food & drink

Home-made bread was made in an original old oven.

And some plays were performend

We stayed until almost midnight- very late for these retirees!

On Monday Uwe and I went with Nicole to the market in Maniago. We stopped first for spritz at the bar where Barbara works.

And then on to the market in downtown Maniago.

Where we stopped for coffee/ beer and had lunch.

Maniago was famous in medieval times for making swords and currently is famous for knives of all types  plus precision dentistry equipment. We bought a number of knives for both ourselves and to give as family presents- all are engraved with 'Maniago- Made in Italy'.
On the way home we saw some low flying air craft and stopped to watch. It was the US Army practicing their parachuting- really interesting to watch.

Wednesday night Uwe and I took Fab and Nicole out for our final diner together. We went to a restaurant in Fiume Veneto where yet another elderly relative of Fab's was the cook. The meal consisted of three courses and was thoroughly enjoyed.

Afterwards we went to the only Brew Pub in the area- I'm sure I have mentioned that Uwe LOVES Brew Pubs! This Pub is in Aviano near the Air Force Base.

And lots of brewing kettles

Uwe got his freshly brewed beer but no tee shirts for sale- damm!
