Uwe, Lucy & I set out on our own with map in hand- I was navigator. Finding Aviano was no problem but finding the road up the mountain was trickier. After a couple of wrong turns we finally saw a sign pointing back to the way we had just tried. Sure enough by shear luck, we found the correct way.
The road up the mountain was well paved and very winding and it took us almost 25 minutes to reach our destination.
Some views on the way up
Here we are with our trusty car
The temperature was about 15 degrees cooler- wonderful since the airconditioner at home was broken!
Here is the entrance to Piancavallo
And some of the resort as well.
The resort had several hotels, restaurants and a wonderful ski area. There was a chairlift open on weekends in the summer to take people to the top where another restaurant was located. However,we were here on a Tuesday so no luck.
Some more picturesque views from the base
Lucy & I in front of the Ski Lift Map- lots of black diamond runs!
And the Ski School
We had lunch & spritz at one of the bar/restaurants enjoying the much cooler air.
The base is at 4000' with higher mountain tops surrounding
